client comment from visitors book by BP of Ledbury SEPT 05 A quite fantastic find 20yrs after finding a gite in the Dordogne, beyond all expectations another in the Languedoc that surpasses it. Forget the website blurb of course what they said was there. It was what they didn't mention, was breathtaking. LocationThe property is set in the magnificent walled garden of the Maison de Maitre in St. Marcel sur Aude, in the sunny south of France, surrounded by productive vineyards. Six miles from the historic town of Narbonne, close to the Canal du Midi and River Aude, which rises in the mountains near Andorra. The well maintained lawned gardens extend to approximately 0.5 of an acre, with large mature trees that provide shaded areas for those who want to escape from the sun. This quiet private garden has been described by visitors as an oasis, hidden in an old village. The sound of the cascading fountain, in the lily ponds, compliments the lovely bird songs. Wifi can be gained on the property.
A one minute walk away by the side of the ancient church takes you to the village boulangerie and a creperie, and a minute in the other direction takes you to a typical French bar. Half a mile away there is a parade of local shops and services, including a supermarket, tabac, pharmacy , and local take away cuisine. October 2008 saw a new quality restaurant in easy walking distance open called 'La Distillerie' we have eaten there and can thoroughly recommend it. A mile away is an Intermarche hypermarket. Wine from the surrounding vines can be tasted in the many local caves. |
